Eco Tourism
Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. As ecotourists, it is our responsibilty to minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment. As divers, we are very concerned about the future of the coral reefs. Both pollution and conventional tourism from cruise ships are damaging these pristine reefs. Although there are many differing opinions on this subject, the bottom line is that our actions today will determine whether future generations get to enjoy the same coral reefs and rainforests.

Ocean Facts Did you know...? An estimated 80% of all life on earth is found under the ocean surface and the oceans contain 99% of the living space on the planet. Less than 10% of that space has been explored by humans. 85% of the area and 90% of the volume constitute the dark, cold environment we call the deep sea. The average depth of the ocean is 3,795 m. The average height of the land is 840 m.
Each year, three times as much rubbish is dumped into the world's oceans as the weight of fish caught.
The Blue whale is the largest animal on our planet ever (exceeding the size of the greatest known dinosaurs) and has a heart is the size of a Volkswagen. information provided by: marinebio.org
earthdive.com photo by earthdive Our oceans cover 75% of the earth's surface, feed more than 3.5 billion people and are the only true net sink for greenhouse gases in 200 years.
Despite this, we are killing them! 80% of commercial fish stocks are now fished beyond their sustainable limits and sea temperatures and levels continue to rise as a result of global warming.
As scuba divers, snorkellers and citizen scientists, we can help protect our earth's most important asset. Tell earthdive what you see.
